The Project

Anyplace is Fine is a visual exploration of self-identity in Singapore. The zine weaves together scanned textures of “home”—whatever it may look like for either artist— reframed and reimagined into a quiet study of place, belonging, and memory.

What came from a curiosity for a new plaything—a portable office scanner—was a deeper self-reflection on how consequential the roles of place and culture are in informing identity; ergo, the title Anyplace is Fine, because it might not matter at all.

The topic was inspired by our discussions on national identity, how Singapore’s identity is “designed”, whereas Indonesia’s seem to have developed naturally. This led to conversations on how it has affected the way we view ourselves, our country as home, and how one could feel like a tourist in one’s own home country.

After settling on a general direction for the zine, we went out to scan non-touristy places in Singapore. We then arranged them into a sequence that aligned with the narration we crafted along the way. Most of the work came in during production, where we meticulously hand-trimmed and bound the book, plus attached the tiniest of inserts. It was a true labour of love!

20 copies of Anyplace is Fine were sold at the Singapore Art Book Fair 2026~! (And peep the videos below to see a bit of our process, courtesy of the very talented Yekai L...)
